The interest of this examples as study cases, besides the daily intense use they have, are that they are gather in ground floor and, because of that, it will be possible to analyze how their social dynamics influence each other.

Surveys will be based on POE (Post-Occupation Evaluation) methodologies and will include the following items.

  1. A general characterization of the informal learning spaces layout and its actual use conditions based on:
      • Drawing of spaces plans and registration of the actual equipment;
      • Rising of the maintenance state of the spaces;
      • Rising of the conditions of environmental comfort (light, air temperature, ventilation and acoustics);
  2. The characterization of the spaces uses (current, punctual or exceptional) considering three main aspects: a) types of users; b) types of uses; c) utilization schedules. To reach these aspects, the following procedures will be applied:
      • Interviews to management staff in order to develop a global view of the school or university context in terms of its social dynamics;
      • Direct observations to informal learning spaces, and its context, in order to register how the space is used by academic community;
      • Walkthroughs to informal learning spaces and its school or university context, with users groups (teachers, students, staff) in order to obtain their views (positive or negative) about the conditions and uses of informal learning spaces and, specially, their contribution to the knowledge-sharing process.
      • Questionnaires to the students in order to identify their satisfaction degree with the informal learning spaces daily used and reasons for that satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
  3. Production of reports with the results obtained.
